One of the more common, not to mention practical, ways of customizing an RV motor home is by adding facilities to aid disabled passengers. This would include things like ramps or wheelchair lifts. There are others that allow for more extensive customization, in case the owner of the RV has trouble with using their legs for braking and such. There are also a few manufacturers who will take requests to custom-produce one of their RV models for use by a disabled person, or to meet certain specifications, provided the buyer can afford the added costs of such changes. There are several businesses that can customize and fabricate new parts for an RV, for a price. Some examples of new parts installed are ramps, for use in extreme sports such as skateboarding and BMX, an effective radio communications system, hydraulic suspension systems, and many different cosmetic touches. Other, more mundane changes can include increasing the interior space by replacing the components with smaller ones, widening aisles, as well as altering certain engine components to improve performance.
